History
Millcreek of Mississippi was founded in 1977 as a 60-bed Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR). It was founded in response to the unmet needs of State Agencies and the general public for a facility to deal with the needs of these very special children. Over the years, Millcreek has grown to 204 beds (125 ICF/MR, 22 TGH and 57 PRTF). It has expanded its services to include group homes, community based programs and special education schools.
Millcreek also has locations in Fordyce, Arkansas and Pontotoc, Mississippi, both of which provide care for the same very special children.
Millcreek is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Youth and Family Centered Services, Inc.

Types of Programs
Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF): This is a highly structured treatment setting and therapeutic environment for children and adolescents 6-21 years who have severe emotional disturbances.
Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR): This long-term residential program provides specialized training and developmental programming to children and adolescents 5-21 years who have mental retardation and/or related developmental disabilities.
Therapeutic Group Home (TGH): This program provides therapeutic treatment services for adolescent males with a history of psychiatric illness. Typically, these adolescents have previously been treated in acute and/or residential settings. The program is a community—based program that provides scheduled activities within a modified positive peer culture.
Community Based Services (CBS): This program provides an array of community-based services and supports under the Home and Community Based Services Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) Waiver Program. Services and supports are provided to eligible individuals and their families to enable these individuals with disabilities to remain with their families in their community or return to their community from a congregate care setting.
Millcreek Schools, Inc.: This program offers educational programming for children with special needs. Individual education plans address the needs of each student with consideration given to styles and rates of learning. The Day Treatment Program is designed to provide assessment and treatment of children and adolescents 6-21 years with emotional disabilities that can benefit from more intense services than outpatient treatment, but do not require a 24-hour inpatient setting. The emphasis of this structured, intensive treatment is the reintegration of the individual back into the community. Treatment combines behavioral and psychodynamic principles and focuses on working with the patient family and community to promote an understanding of the patient's illness and provide the tools to reduce and/or eliminate the need for hospitalization.
Day Treatment Services: This program is designed to provide assessment, quality education and case management services for developmentally-disabled and emotionally-disturbed children and adolescents. These youth are in need of more intense services than a public school can provide, but do not require the restrictive environment of a residential setting. The emphasis in this structured program is the reintegration of the child or adolescent back into the community.
