History
Tampa Bay Academy was created by a psychiatrist, a therapist, and administrator and owner of a group of skilled care facilities. The founders believed that a special facility was needed for those children and adolescents whose behavior warranted a level of intervention not available in existing acute psychiatric hospitals.
At the time of Tampa Bay Academy's founding in 1988, the environment was such that many children were treated for extended lengths of time in hospitals. It was their belief that these children and adolescents needed an environment that specifically met their needs and was less institutional. It was also necessary that Tampa Bay Academy provide an environment in which the children and adolescents could experience a community of their peers just as they do in the community to which they will return upon discharge.
Tampa Bay Academy exists today as a benchmark for child and adolescent behavioral treatment center for the southeastern United States. With residential day treatment and outpatient care services, a full array of educational services to those children and adolescents who are entrusted to our care.
